Early August Update Aug. 4th, 2005 @ 09:58 am
Students entering first year should have received a package yesterday with a copy of Alan Hutchinson's The Law School Book, some flyers for various groups, and the first year survival guide.

My favorite page of the package is the one that claims that we dont have to read anything during the summer, but then lists about 30 books that we may want to take a look at! Honestly, i wish they would have sent this list with our letters of admission. If I got the list sooner, I probably would have made a few my summer reading!

I have to say, I'm quite impressed with all the info and help osgoode has been offering to date. I hope this attention continues into the upper years of the program.

For First Year Students... Jul. 21st, 2005 @ 09:21 am
Now that we have our schedules, what section did each of you get?

I'm section C, small group 2.

hope to see you next year!

Also, though the samples for most professors are quite small, you may want to read up on your future teachers here:

This community is quiet right now, so I thought I'd forward some of the information that Penny Spence has been sending out in the past few weeks.

If you have not already read them, here is some information about funding:

There are separate documents for first year and upper year students. I didnt take a look at the upper year document, but the first year one had some decent information. I'm hoping that I qualify for a nice big bursary!

On that note, does anybody know what a typical bursary amount is for somebody who qualifies for osap's maximum need? How complicated is the bursary application process?

Just a reminder, it's time to pick your courses next week, between monday may 30th and friday june 3rd. I assume we'll get our marks in by the end of this week then (it's driving me nuts waiting for them!).

Hi everyone :)

First of all, cheers to the person who started this LJ community :D

I have just finished my first year at york (glendon campus). I am very curious about what people (those who are already in law school, any law school for that matter) have to say about their experiences so far.

I started at york as a major undecided - I am seriously indecisive and don't even know what to major in. I used to never have thought about law school as a possible future option because so many ppl mentioned it and I thought it was too popular of an option, but now it has entered my mind as my interests and goals have truly began to develope. In the case that I do aim for law school, what do you suggest as a helpful major? I am most likely going to remain at my liberal arts campus. Is double majoring or specialized honours going to affect my chances?

I have heard so many bits and pieces from random ppl, but how competitive is Osgoode in recent years? How important is the LSAT (in terms of determining your entrance into Osgoode)? Most importantly, did any of you find that if you went elsewhere for law school it wouldn't have made too much of a difference?

Thanks :)

I would like people to send me some useful sites, links, information or anything else that would look good on the information page.

I'm open to any suggestions.

Depending on how busy this community gets (i dont expect any real interest until sept), I may want to add some moderators as well. We'll see.

This is the first post in the Osgoode Hall Livejournal community.

I hope this works out - it's my first time moderating a group.
